Delight in the Law of the Lord - Pastor Justin Miles
Wednesday Prayer Meeting
Pastor Justin Miles
Psalms 119:113-120
To Find Our Delight In the Law of the Lord
113: I hate double-minded men but I love your law
- need to make a commitment to God - don't ride the fence
114: You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word
- Our hope is in God's unchanging Word
115: Away from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commands of my God!
-Those doing evil are a distraction to the one trying to follow God's commands
- Galatians 5:17 - For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit...
116: Sustain me according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed
- God keeps His promises - He cannot go against His Word
118: You reject all who stray from your decrees, for their deceitfulness is in vain
-God's wrath is for those opposed to God
120: My flesh trembles in fear of you; I stand in awe of your laws
- "fear" is the beginning of knowledge
- must have a correct view of fear
- God is against sin but His wrath was taken away by Jesus' sacrifice
Quote from Jerry Bridges:
“From our limited vantage point, our lives are marked by an endless series of contingencies. We frequently find ourselves instead of acting as we planned, reacting to an unexpected turn or events. We make plans but are often forced to change those plans. But there are no contingencies with God. Our unexpected, forced change of plans is a part of His plan. God is never surprised; never caught off guard; never frustrated by unexpected development. God does as He pleases, and that which pleases Him is always for His glory and our good.
Our lives are also cluttered with a lot of “if onlys.” “If only I had done this,” or “if only that had not happened.” But again, God has no “if onlys.” God never makes a mistake; God has no regrets. “As for God, his way is perfect” (Psalm 18:30). We can trust God. He is trustworthy.”
